Introduction to Raku Pottery workshop on Sunday 31st July, 2022 10.30 - 2.30pm
This visually exciting and very fast way of firing pottery with beautiful and surprising results will be led by Alan Hill of Aby Ceramics, who will provide 3 pieces of pottery ready for you to glaze & fire. Raku involves removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat & placing it into containers with combustible materials. Once the materials ignite the containers are closed. This produces an intense reduction atmosphere, which affects the colours in the glazes. The drastic thermal shock can result in the desirable crazing of the surface. Wear suitable clothing for the weather, robust shoes (no sandles), cotton clothes, tie back long hair and bring a packed lunch - you will be provided with safety wear. Limited to 6 places and maybe weather dependent as the kiln is outdoors.
