A stained glass workshop with Strawberry Glass creating a colourful suncatcher on Saturday 15th September 2018 10.30 – 4.00pm
An informative, practical and fun day learning the basics of stained glass work including the copper foiling construction technique developed in the Tiffany Studios. You will make a stained glass piece to take home with you using copper tape and solder to create a seam joining the pieces of glass. Suitable for beginners age 16+, with a choice of suncatcher designs including Christmas decorations and an inspiring selection of coloured and textured glass. You will learn how to select and cut suitable glass and prepare it for foiling, to apply the copper foil tape and solder the seams, to create and apply wire-hanging rings and to polish ready for display. The cost covers use of tools, safety equipment and all the materials that you will need. Hot drinks are provided.
About Strawberry Glass:-
Based at the Strawberry Glass Studio in Lincolnshire, Gillian and David Wingwork with the vibrant and glowing colours of handmade glass to create stunning designs for the home and garden. Apart from teaching at the Alford Craft Market Centre they also teach further afield, including tutoring at the Heritage Skills Centre at Lincoln Castle and at the Stained Glass Museum in Ely. Teaching both the traditional lead work skills and the copper foiling method developed for the construction of the Tiffany lampshades and suitable for lighter more intricate pieces. At the end of each workshop you will take home a unique and colourful piece of stained glass that you have made, along with new skills and insights into the world of glass working.
