Linocut Printmaking Taster Session with printmaker Jane West on Friday 31st May, 2019 10.30 – 3.30pm
Due to demand - EXTRA CLASS ADDED
Linocut is a printmaking technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of Lino is used for the relief surface. A design is cut into the Lino surface with a sharp knife, V-shaped chisel or gouge, with the raised (uncarved) areas representing a reversal (mirror image) of the parts to show printed. On this one-day workshop you will learn how to use the tools, equipment & materials to get started in linocut. You will be guided through the process in a step-by-step way. You will produce an edition of A4 prints to take home with you. Suitable for adults who are complete beginners. Basic materials will be provided including a lino block, lino cut tools, a range of ink colours & cartridge paper. If you have images you would like to take inspiration from feel free to bring them along, although examples of different linocuts & still life samples will be available on the day. Refreshments will be provided – please bring a packed lunch. A further 4 week course is planned for a more in depth look at printmaking techniques.
